Artist Bio
Justin is an emerging queer artist that is based in Toronto. A young artist with a wide variety of subject matter and ways of creating work. Currently studying at OCAD University, they aim to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in drawing and painting.
Currently their art practice consists of two streams: Abstract and Identity. Their abstract works are often sculptural, working with layers upon layers of materials. Many of these pieces were for their body of work for their university classes, as well as some personal projects. The second theme, identity, manifests itself in a large series of self-portraits. They also explore an aspect of their identity in the representation of queer issues that they experience.
Currently they are working on completing a new series of work and hopes to continue exploring the themes they enjoy working in.
Practices
While Justin is primarily focused in drawing and painting based works they also explore other mediums such as sculpture, black and white film, and digital photography.
Expertise
Drawing and painting are the most comfortable areas in which Justin works; but a new artistic challenge has never stopped them from exploring new mediums.
Location
Currently based in Toronto, Justin is focusing on completing their degree at OCADU. Upon completion they plan to travel and explore their artistic endeavours.
